Galen Rowell Gallery

Mountain Light Gallery (Bishop) - Sierra Nevada  2017

Rowell Adopt-A-Highway Sign - Sierra Nevada  2017

Mike had two trips of interest in the past few months: a) to the Sierra Nevada in late September, then, b) to Japan in November.

So, he's going to post some photos from both trips in the coming weeks, on and off. That'll be nice.

So, Mountain Light Gallery in Bishop is closing. Too bad!

There's an Adopt-A-Highway section of the road outside Bishop where maintenance is being done in the Rowells' name.

To be honest, Mike was always envious of the prices displayed in the gallery.

I didn't know Rowell had a gallery in Bishop.

I once tried getting in touch with himl, but he had "interference" set up to fend off groupies, and I never
could talk with him.

Shame about the plane crash.

We used to know a couple who knew a couple with kids who'd fly around the state in their Cessna.

Can't say I ever wanted to do that. Risky.

Rowell's greatest asset was his ability to get to places most photographers couldn't. He only needed so-so technique
for the kind of work he did. Lots of followers have repeated his discoveries.

He used to run with his dog up in Tilden over the ridge from us here.

I had thought that Rowell himself was piloting the plane, but no. Cause of the crash seems to be that the plane stalled on the "base to final turn."
