I'm labeling these as taken in Owens Valley because of the snow covered mountains. Although you could also find much the same views in Death Valley, to be sure.

The one photo on the contact sheet that has a definite location. Old timers still remember Bobo's Bonanza fondly. 

In fact, I still have Bobo's business card pinned to the corkboard next to the computer.

Taken in the winter, mountains covered in snow. Next year we were able to get to the summit of Mt. Whitney.

I'm thinking Owens Valley as a location due to the water features. That might not be a river in the bottom photo - maybe recent rain water in a wash.

Wow!

So, we were originally camping over in Death Valley, but it got way too hot. So we drove over the mountains to a campsite higher up in Owens Valley. Much cooler!

BTW, those mountains have been the subject of a prior blog post.

I've mentioned before that leaving Bishop the highway looks to be heading directly towards the mountains. (Eventually veers off to the right.)

Then, Crowley Lake, created by Los Angeles and famous for trout fishing.

I found this neat spot last year: the entrance to an unpaved desert road with plenty of space to park and stretch out. Also . . . I had thoughtfully brought a folding chair this time!

I walked to the first ridge on the road so I could see the view on the other side. I was able to get a photo of the hills there as well as an RV heading down the road.

One nice thing about this area: on one side of the valley you have mountains, on the other side you have desert. After aspen-viewing I drove down to Bishop, then south to Big Pine. Then, the road out of Big Pine towards Death Valley.

Taken during an afternoon walk in Bishop City Park. The South Fork of Bishop Creek runs right through the park with a large mallard population enjoying the pristine water.

I parked at the intersection, got out the Sony RX100, and walked down Buttermilk Road for some photos.

So now I'm thinking that I should actually drive down there some day. I have an AWD vehicle after all.

It's a long drive from Fairfax to Bishop! Takes me at least 8 hours, what with photography and driving pretty slow, to be honest. Checked in at the motel, then went for a short walk.
