We found a parking lot near the lake and walked over to the shore. But only for a moment - the wind chill was pretty fierce. I took a last photo of some aspens before diving back into the warmth of the car.

We wanted to take a short hike in the morning before we returned home, but yikes - the wind chill factor was tremendous. Temperature was in the low 30s . . . that, combined with a stiff wind coming off the lake soon chased us off.

We just stayed one night in Incline Village . . . for dinner we got Korean chicken wings takeout. Good, but one of the sauces was quite spicy.

We wanted to visit Incline Village - where I had been last January - but without any treacherous snow. There was an old snow pile in the Hyatt parking lot, but otherwise OK.

Vast amounts of burnt areas are visible from Highway 50, remnants of last year's Caldor Fire. It was difficult to find a suitable place to pull off the road for photographs.

Top: I parked on the side of the road near the Emerald Bay scenic overlook. Lots of snow! I stuck with peeking over the snow banks to get a shot of Fannette Island. 

Bottom: Back in 1998 I was able to hike a little higher to get an unobstructed view of the bay and island (film photograph).

So, I decided that - as long as I was there - I might as well take some extra time going home to loop around the west side of Tahoe on Highway 89. I was able to pull off the road in a few places to get a closer look at the mountain crags.

7:30 AM. I wanted to see what the lake looked like in the morning. Nice! A little too cold for chair-sitting, however.

Walking around the area proved to be slightly treacherous . . . snowmelt had turned to ice on the sidewalks. The remaining snow from a month ago was hard and unyielding - no snowballs or snow angels, alas.

The lakeshore was only a short distance from the hotel. I walked over in the afternoon, then wandered around the area.

Our adjoining rooms were on the 11th floor. Nice straight-on view of snowy hotel grounds and distant mountains. By twisting around some you could get a view of Lake Tahoe!

(In order to get to the hotel from the parking lot, you had to walk through the casino.)

I had thought that my destination was somewhere near South Lake Tahoe. But no, we had reservations at the Hyatt Hotel in Incline Village, Nevada. This meant driving up Highway 80 to Truckee, then heading over to the north edge of Lake Tahoe.

For lunch I bought a sandwich and Fritos at a convenient Subway (influenced by KDramas? - no.) I remembered an open area just north of Truckee on Highway 89 and drove there. Lots of snow! I found a place to park and had a tailgate Fritos & Beer lunch.

Pizza and beer! Good . . . except . . . gave me a touch of "pizza stomach" if you know what I mean.

We drove south to the north shore of Lake Tahoe, ran into a lot of traffic, turned around and drove back. But not before I pulled over to take an I-was-there iPhone panorama.

Innocent beachgoers relaxing as an ominous thundercloud approaches. In the end, though, there weren't any weather events and the clouds began to dissipate as soon as the sun went down.

Mike stayed overnight in South Lake Tahoe, in order to both take a shower and to take a stroll around the South Lake Tahoe sightems.

Wow . . . look at that red in that photo! Mike has never been able to capture a red so intense as that.
