Palm Trees - Pismo Beach  2021

The drive down to Pismo Beach from Marin County is quite long. We needed to get out our Southern California fold-out map to plan our trip. So Southern California: I guess the palm trees are kind of OK.

Return to Pismo Beach

Ocean, Clouds - Pismo Beach  2021

There's already an extensive amount of Pismo Beach photos on the blog. When we lived in Los Angeles it was one of our frequent vacation spots. And in recent years I've broken up the drive coming from L.A. by overnight stays in the Pismo Beach vicinity.

Now there'll be more posts! We took a family vacation in August in Pismo Beach, staying there for several days. Lots of photo ops.

Smoke

Sun, Fire Road, Smoke - Marin County  2021

Mount Tamalpais, Smoke - Marin County  2021

Here's my seasonal smoke post, a regular feature on the mikereport. The smoke in our area is not coming from either the Dixie Fire or the Caldor Fire, but rather from the "River Complex" fires.

Regarding the current fire situation, I'd like to quote from my June 16, 2017 "Dead Trees" post:

"Most of the trees have lost some, or all, of their needles. This is making the problem less conspicuous as they are starting to resemble the snags left after a fire. Certainly they are going to provide fuel for future forest fires."

Monday Horse Blogging

Tuffy (San Geronimo Valley) - Marin County  2013

Tuffy, waiting to be fed. Hanna was able eventually to help with his feed bucket.

As a point of interest, he needed to be given horse wormers on a regular basis . . . Hali rotated through various medications, including Ivermectin. Alas, I guess that we don't have any old tubes laying around though.

Tuffy hated the stuff, by the way.

California Western - 1

California Western RR Car (Fort Bragg) - Mendocino County  2021

Art, Railroad Car (Fort Bragg) - Mendocino County  2021

"Gas-powered, self-propelled, passenger railcars were added in 1925; and, after Pullman service was discontinued, CWR steam passenger trains ran only when the motorcars were out of service for maintenance. The passenger coaches were scrapped in 1949. The motorcars were nicknamed "Skunks" because people said, "You can smell 'em before you can see 'em."

I remember taking the train to its midpoint some years ago. It's my understanding that it no longer makes a regular run over to Willits.

But, they're still working on the tracks! Below, a little maintenance car we had to stop for on the way out of town.

Noyo Harbor Mural

Mural, Noyo Harbor (Fort Bragg) - Mendocino County  2021

I had to leave our restaurant and walk back for this photo. The sun was starting to get kind of low: I was worried that the glare might wipe out the sky. But no! . . . the Canon came through.
