Oregon Views

Lupin - Oregon  2024

Agriculture - Oregon  2024

Photos taken on my drive from Colfax, Washington to Boise, Idaho. I hadn't realized that the route would take me through part of Oregon on a major interstate. Nice views provided by a well-placed scenic viewpoint.

Trompe l'oeil

Margaret's Preliminary Bathroom Remodel Sketch - Eugene  2021

Very preliminary. I don't know if anything from the sketch has made it into the final plan.

I saw it laying on our breakfast table in the Eugene AirBnB. Anyway . . . what interests me is that I find the iPhone photo of the sketch to have a certain trompe l'oeil quality. ("Trompe l'oeil is a style of painting that's so realistic that it appears to be three-dimensional.")

By the way, trompe l'oeil is pronounced "trump loy."

Sunset, Summer Solstice

Sunset (Summer Solstice) - Eugene  2021

End of the longest day, looking west from the Eugene Masonic Cemetery.

8:48 PM, according to the photo's file data. I used a Canon G5XII for the shot.

Baby Seymour Through The Years

Baby Seymour - Eugene  1984

Baby Seymour - Eugene  2009

Baby Seymour - Eugene  2021

In 1984 Mike was wandering around an old cemetery in Eugene with tripod and twin-lens reflex when he spotted Baby Seymour’s tombstone almost covered with ivy. After developing the negative and printing it, he noticed the spider lurking in the lower right.

Returning in 2009 he found that the ivy had been removed and Baby Seymour's tombstone had been somewhat refreshed.

Last month, 37 years after the first photograph, there was still no trace of ivy, but alas, the inscription has started to become somewhat illegible.

Harris Street Art

Scrooge McDuck, Jesus - Eugene  2021

Toy Ceiling - Eugene  2021

There are many curious and droll tableaux to be seen throughout judit's house. Found object art? Conceptual art?

You be the judge.

Vietnamese Food Truck

Spring Rolls - Eugene  2021

Tam's Place - Eugene  2021

Excellent Vietnamese cuisine takeout . . . the spring rolls in particular were visually striking. While others waited in line during some warmish weather, Mike scurried over to a nearby grocery store to pick up some Ninkasi IPAs.

Rental Car

Prius, Self-Portrait - Eugene  2021

We hadn't asked specifically for a Prius, so we were a bit surprised when we got one. This was Mike's first hybrid experience. Instead of a gear shift lever, the car had a front-mounted knob, the operation of which Mike finally figured out. Almost.

Hideaway Bakery

Bakery Door - Eugene  2021

Hideaway Bakery Products -  Eugene  2021

It was too crowded on our first visit Sunday morning. Much better early Monday. Quite tasty!

iPhone photos.

Monday Cat Blogging

Cat - Eugene 2021

Usually the small Canon doesn't exhibit any depth of field issues. But here, we see that the leaves are in focus and the cat is interestingly blurred.

Toothbrush Art

Toothbrush Art - Eugene 1998

Toothbrushes carefully placed just so in judit's backyard in 1998. Found Object Art? Conceptual Art? You be the judge.

Below, toothbrushes seen last month in her backyard. One speculates that they are the same objects that were seen in 1998. Maybe.

Eugene AirBnB

Plastic Sunflowers - Eugene 2021

Love Pillow - Eugene  2021

Hali and Mike's second Airbnb experience . . . the first one was in Yokohama

The interesting thing is that it was kind of expensive. But that was because they were having the Olympic track and field trials that week in Eugene (which we hadn't known about in advance).

Eugene Airport

Go Ducks - Eugene  2021

Car Rental, Baggage Pickup Areas (Eugene Airport) - Eugene  2021

Quite a contrast between EUG and SFO. Nerve-shattering bedlam vs quite mellow vacant spaces.

Fern Ridge Lake

Fern Ridge Lake - Oregon  2021

Taken during the approach to Eugene's airport. Pastoral views . . . I think that's Fern Ridge Lake, based on my eyeballing the Google map.

Farm Photos

Farm Workshop - Marin County  2017

Thermometer - Marin County  2017

Pix taken near the Marin-Sonoma border (with an Olympus E-PL7), at True Grass Farms.

The lower photo reminded me of this 2009 one, taken in Oregon (with a Canon G9):

Rose Garden

Roses - Portland  2015

Shakespeare Garden - Portland  2015

Photos taken during a last-minute visit to Portland's famous Rose Garden.

"On clear days there are views of the Cascade Mountains, with Mount Hood featured prominently."

Alas, it wasn't at all clear during our stay, so we never did get to see Mount Hood. Nice flowers, though.

Laurelhurst Park

Laurelhurst Park - Portland  2015

Oregon Grape - Portland  2015

Wanting to visit some other section of Portland other than the downtown area we managed to wend our way over the river to Laurelhurst Park.

Just a little bit gloomy under the overcast sky, but very picturesque.
