Science Talk

Science Talk - Colorado  1993

We had arranged our vacation so we could visit Hali's sister Margaret at one of her arcane field studies in the Rockies. I'm not sure what exactly was being studied, or what part those hubcap thingies played in the data collection. However, I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out that soil was somehow involved.

In the event, Margaret wasn't able to make the rendezvous so the fellow above acted as her stand-in, explaining the concepts involved to Shawna and Hali.

So that meeting didn't come off, but we were able to schedule one 26 years later, in Vienna

Trees, Mountains - Colorado  1993

We were camping not that far from the town. Very scenic! Again, I used a large format camera for these photos.

Building, Clouds - Colorado  1993

We took a trip to Crested Butte in Colorado in 1993. Again, the locations shown in the titles are somewhat approximate. For the 35mm photos I used a Minolta SLR.

Colorado

Barn - Colorado  2012

Crested Butte - Colorado  1993

It turns out that when going from Monticello to New Mexico you get to cut across a small portion of Colorado. Nicely rural . . . not much to photograph. An earlier trip in 1993 to Crested Butte was more scenic.

November 3, 1964

Who among us can say, with any degree of certainty, exactly what they were doing on this date 45 years ago?

Well, maybe some can . . . and maybe there are some that weren't even born 45 years ago.

Anyway, as it so happens (as it was meant to happen) Mike has documentary evidence of what he was doing on November 3, 1964. Yes, he was kneeling on the grass outside some barracks in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, getting a first-hand look at the capabilities of a psychological warfare unit. Wow!

And not unlike Marcel Proust's childhood memories of madeleines, Mike's Fort Bragg memories are confined to tastes: Fanta soda and hoagies.

(The next stop on Mike's Army tour was Fort Carson, Colorado.)
