Hooded Mergansers - Lake Lagunitas  2025

"The bird is striking in appearance; both sexes have crests that they can raise or lower, and the breeding plumage of the male is handsomely patterned and coloured."

In 2013 I was able to take a photo of Mt. Diablo from an airplane. Wow!

December Fog - Lake Lagunitas

Trees, Lake, Fog - Lake Lagunitas  2025

Redwoods, Ferns, Fog - Lake Lagunitas  2025

I always welcome fog-enshrouded days. Very atmospheric!

BTW, if one does an internet search on "enshrouded" all you get is computer game references.

Steps (December)

Stairs, Fog - Lake Lagunitas  2025

Stairs, Oak Leaves - Lake Lagunitas  2025

These stone steps are at the beginning - or end - of the hike around Lake Lagunitas (depending on the direction you take). They remind me a little of those granite steps you frequently find on Sierra Nevada trails, but those are usually quite a bit longer.

Puddle, Olive Tree Trunks (Fairfax) - Marin County  2025

We had a goodly amount of rain in the October-December 2025 quarter. Yay! Reservoirs are now full!

They added some extra asphalt to diminish the puddle in the bottom photo. Haven't seen yet if it worked.

Monday Salmon Blogging

Coho Salmon, Lagunitas Creek - Marin County  2025

Black and white salmon are Coho salmon. (Didn't know that!) The fish enter the creek in Tomales Bay, then swim upstream to spawn.

We visited the salmon viewing area last November with Hanna and Nolan. Lagunitas Creek was quite picturesque that day!

The capitol complex was a short walk from our hotel. We were a little too early to see the capitol Christmas tree lit up. They were setting it up though.
