Recently I drove highway 101 from Los Angeles heading north.
So: Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Monterey, San Jose and then, the Bay Area. By far the worst air quality (visually speaking) was experienced in the Bay Area. That's ridiculous.
And, I've complained about this before. Yikes!
