Statue, St Mary's Church (Nicasio) - Marin County  2019

Religious Art (Dominican College) - Marin County  2019

As I might have said before, the Catholics and Buddhists seem to have the best religious art.

St Mary's, Telephone Pole (Nicasio) - Marin County  2019

I was using a Canon G5XII . . . a new purchase. Trying to get the feel of it before our trip to Europe in October.

Tiburon Sightems - 2

Pine Cone, Self-Portrait (Tiburon) - Marin County  2019

Boats, San Francisco Skyline (Tiburon) - Marin County  2019

So, most of these photos were taken in September using a new camera, a Canon G5XII. I wanted to test it in varying conditions to see if it would be suitable as a one-camera travel option. So far so good. Annoying, though, having to type in the "II" every time you refer to it.

I'll have to have a little extended post about the camera at some point in the future.

Tiburon Sightems - 1

Bougainvillea, Staircase (Tiburon) - Marin County  2019

Sam's Anchor Cafe (Tiburon) - Marin County  2019

Taken during a combined Sausalito / Tiburon photo excursion.

I don't think we've ever eaten at Sam's. Probably should, at least once.

Sausalito Agaves

Agave (Sausalito) - Marin County  2019

Agaves, Self-Portrait (Sausalito) - Marin County  2019

These plants are found in Sausalito in front of the fire station at Johnson and Bridgeway. Usually I just post black and white abstracts as in the top photo, but I thought it would be interesting to get an overall view.

Back through Yosemite

Pine Tree, Lembert Dome (Tuolumne Meadows) - Yosemite  2019

Like I said, I can't find any photos taken on the way home after my 2005 backpack. So I guess I'll just put this one in for now, a late August photo taken this year in Tuolumne Meadows.  I'll post some other photos from my 2019 camping trip at a later date.

The Hike Out - 2

Mike, Kearsarge Pinnacles - Sierra Nevada  2005

Big Pothole Lake - Sierra Nevada  2005

From the notes:

6:30 AM—37º. A bear wandered through last night, around midnight. Could just make out his silhouette. Woke me up!
9:00—Leave camp.
10:15—Kearsarge Pass.
1:00 PM—Trailhead.
3:15—Mammoth & the Quality Inn!
4:00—Showered! Over to Gomez’ for a quesadilla and some draft beer! FYI, I ache all over.

[Update: Alas, I can't find any photos of the after-hike Mammoth experience. Huh.]

Kearsarge Lakes - Hiking Out

Reeds, Reflections - Sierra Nevada  2005

Mike, Reading - Sierra Nevada  2005
From the notes:

2:00—Back at campsite number 1. Kearsarge Lakes.
5:30—The Hatch! Much more so than Monday night. Trout don’t have to jump—just scoop up th’ hatch. Very nice here . . . best part of trip, actually. A little like Minaret Lake, with the Kearsarge Pinnacles standing in for the Minarets.

The Hike Out - 1

East Vidette Peak - Sierra Nevada  2005

Taking Down Tent - Sierra Nevada  2005

From the notes:

Up at 6:15 AM. Temperature at 5 AM was 31º. Start packing. Some trepidation over major ascent today. Camera battery dead! Wha . . . ? Two deer wander through my campsite.
8:50—Leave camp.
9:45—Low point. Vidette Meadows. Campers with campfire. Nice, actually. Breakfast.
10:00—Resume hiking.
11:40—Kearsarge Pass junction. I’m alive, but just barely. Almost immediately, the trail opens up and become more scenic.
12:30—1:00 PM—Lunch at Bullfrog Lake.

Mountain View, 4PM - Sierra Nevada  2005

After I got back home I spent some time looking at the topo map trying to figure out what mountain this was. Alas, no luck.

Rock Details

Rock Detail #1 - Sierra Nevada  2005

Rock Detail #2 - Sierra Nevada  2005

Details seen around my Bubbs Creek campsite.

From the notes:

12:50—Leave the pass for the return.
4:15—Back at camp.
7:10—Inside the tent. 50º. Hiding from mosquitos. Need to rest! Definitely, yes: Another too-tough trip!

Dayhike: 8 hours.

[Update: So . . . this was quite some time ago (years, actually) and even back then I was complaining about the toughness of the trip. Huh. So it's not a recent thing.]

Monday Deer Blogging (Deer, Tuolumne Meadows 2012)

Deer, Tuolumne Meadows - Yosemite  2012

OK, so this photo wasn't taken during my 2005 backpack, but I wanted to post a nice Sierra wildlife photo. Taken during a dayhike going north on the PCT out of Tuolumne Meadows in 2012.

Forester Pass View

Forester Pass View - Sierra Nevada  2005

Bighorn Plateau - Sierra Nevada  2002

The "awe-inspiring Forester Pass" and the "mind-boggling view." It's interesting that I had been in the area below Forester Pass in 2002, on horseback. You can make out the same mountain range in both photos.

Forester Pass

Forester Pass - Sierra Nevada  2005

Mike, Forester Pass - Sierra Nevada  2005

From the notes:

12:20 PM—The awe-inspiring Forester Pass. Cross over into Sequoia National Park for a few minutes. 13,200 feet elevation. Solitary lunch. Rock pix. Southwards, a mind-boggling view.
