Devils Postpile

Postpile - Sierra Nevada  2019

Postpile Detail -  Sierra Nevada  2019

"The monument was created in 1911 as Devil Postpile National Monument, but is widely referred to as Devils Postpile National Monument, and has been officially styled as plural without the apostrophe since the 1930s." Wikipedia

So, I shouldn't have used apostrophes in my previous posts. Not going back and changing them though.

An early-morning visit, nobody around.

Both photo are great. Love them and the pastries. I would afraid to try and eat one. P

Years ago,I lugged my 4x5 and tripod up the jumbled boulders to get a shot of Indian Paintbrush against the base of the wall at Devils Postpone. No sooner had I snapped the shutter than two rangers ambled along and began berating me for violating the prohibition against doing it. They threatened to cite me and drag me off to their holding cell.

I just love those guys, they do so much to heighten the wilderness experience. They get to live in their favorite places and see to it that the public is kept at bay.

Land of Many Uses.

Thanks!

Although there's much I don't like about it, my current Olympus digital camera combined with a robust telephoto lens allows me to "get close" without scrambling through boulders etc.
Oh, and very little need for a tripod now . . . always a plus.
