Drones in the Wilderness

Drone (Hoover Wilderness) - Sierra Nevada  2016
Hoover Wilderness Sign - Sierra Nevada  2016

What was that buzzing noise? Wasn't a chain saw . . . Mike was puzzled. Sounded more like a really large and powerful weed whacker.

Of course, the blog title has given the puzzle away . . . a drone was being operated above Green Lake, located far within the Hoover Wilderness. Jeez . . . Mike would have thought that drones wouldn't be allowed in Wilderness Areas.

And of course, they aren't: [Drones] are considered to be both “motorized equipment” and “mechanical transport” as such they cannot take off from, land in, or be operated from congressionally designated Wilderness Areas.

But I'm sure that the footage from the drone will be really cool: slo-mo tracking shots across the exquisite expanse of the lake accompanied by a ethereal new-agey soundtrack. So there.
