Mike's campsite was at the "Dry Gulch" Forest Service camp near El Portal. Doesn't sound all that attractive, but actually quite nice. Basically, a walk-in style camp, where you park up above and bring your stuff down. Right alongside the Merced River: plenty of white noise during the night.
