I always like remembering that, as a very small boy, when we visited the Barnum & Bailey Circus in San Francisco--in the early 1950's--patrons were led into the elephant tent, where they were given a small bag of peanuts. You took the unshelled peanuts out of the bag, and placed them in your palm. The elephants would dip their trunks down over the rope, and you would put would one peanut inside each nostril. Then the elephant would tip the trunk up and suck the peanuts down. The trunk was dark grey and wrinkly, but the nose holes were bright pink.
Funny no one else I'ave ever men has reported this experience.

What a sweet and happy picture. Today would have been Tuffy's birthday!
