. . . a Coleman bug tent/canopy! As seen here it has been set up over the bear box in order to shade it from the punishing high-altitude Sierra sun, thus keeping the ice chest items cool.
Alas, due to a momentary lapse in attention, Mike managed to rip one of the tent thingies off while disassembling it, but Coleman has since replaced the entire unit.
