50 years ago. I was renting a second-floor room in a house on College Avenue while I was attending UC Berkeley. Google Street View reveals that the place looks about the same now.

50 years ago I was living with my young wife across the street from Cody's book store on Haste, in my senior year at UC Berkeley. The next year I was off to Iowa and the Writers' Workshop. Telegraph Avenue was a lively place then. That Summer I worked at Johnson Gear & Manufacture in West Berkeley. Five years later I was a CR at the Civic Center Office in San Francisco.
