Bristlecone Pines - 1

Bristlecone Pine Branches - Inyo County  2017

Bristlecone Pine Trunk - Inyo County  2017

High up in the White Mountains. Mike likes to pay a visit whenever he's in the vicinity. Maybe some day he'll set up camp there so he can get some sunrise photos.

Some day.

One thing I noted when I was there looking at the Bristlecones.

The exposed bark was striated with very sharp veins--sharp enough to cut your finger if you weren't careful.

Also, the tourist walk forbids stepping off the trail to get closer shots of the trunks. Frustrating.

I did it anyway, and got one of my greatest shots up there.

Ha. Certainly, veering off-trail with a view camera is more obvious than with a small digital hand-held camera. Also, no zoom lenses available back then.
